01 THE PROJECT
About Reforged
What is Halo 5 Reforged?
Halo 5 Reforged is an unofficial, community-built project working to bring the complete Halo 5: Guardians experience to PC: campaign, co-op, multiplayer, Warzone, Forge, and Spartan customization. LAN and mod support are long-term goals.
“Complete Halo 5” describes our ambition. It does not mean every feature is finished. The roadmap separates working development features from work in progress and planned features.
Is this an official Halo or Microsoft project?
No. Reforged is an independent fan project, not affiliated with, authorized, sponsored, approved, or endorsed by Microsoft Corporation or Halo Studios. Halo and its game content belong to their respective rights holders.
Is Reforged free? Can I donate or pay for early access?
Reforged is free and non-commercial. We do not sell builds, charge for access, accept donations, offer paid early access, or put features behind a paywall.
No money is collected by or for Halo 5 Reforged. We do not monetize the project through advertising, sponsorships, or subscriptions. See the project policy for the full terms.
02 AVAILABILITY
Release & access
When will Reforged be released?
There is no announced release date or ETA. Reforged is in active development, and we do not want to promise a date we cannot meet.
Public testing and release plans will be announced on this website and in the project Discord.
Where can I download it? What about the launcher?
There is no public playable release yet. The launcher shown in the devlog is used for development testing; seeing it in a screenshot does not mean a public build is available.
When testing or release builds become available, we will announce where to get them through the project’s official channels.
Why not release the current development build?
A build that works during development is not automatically ready for public use. It needs reliable gameplay, usable setup instructions, and packaging that respects the project’s distribution boundaries.
The roadmap shows what still needs work. “Done” means working in development, not publicly released.
Can I become a tester or request a private build?
Testing opportunities will be announced when broader testing is useful. Unless an opportunity has specifically been announced, tester access is not open.
Please do not send private messages asking for builds, a tester role, or a release date. Follow the announcements so you can take part when testing opens.
03 THE EXPERIENCE
Modes & progress
Is the campaign working?
Yes, in development builds. All fifteen missions load into gameplay, and Osiris has been played from start to finish on all four difficulties. Full completion checks for the other missions are still underway.
Stability, rendering, and mission checks remain in progress before a public release. See the campaign roadmap.
Does campaign co-op work? Will it support four players?
Two-player campaign co-op works in development on the community dedicated server, and large co-op checkpoints save and load. Two PCs have also reached Genesis together across separate networks.
Internet stability, HUD recovery, sustained play, and mission transitions still need work. A successful connection is not proof of a stable full playthrough. Full four-player fireteams remain planned. See the co-op roadmap.
What about multiplayer and Warzone?
Both are in active development. Custom Games have working map and mode selection, and repeat games on the same map have been tested. Arena playlists and matchmaking remain planned.
Warzone Firefight has reached gameplay on A.R.C. and March on Stormbreak. Temple has been played through to the final boss, and A.R.C. reaches its match-over screen, scoreboard, and Carnage Report.
That does not mean every map or mode is finished. More Firefight maps, match-stat validation, REQ use, and reliable transitions remain in progress; player-versus-player Warzone is planned. Follow the multiplayer and Warzone roadmaps.
Can I customize my Spartan and use REQ packs?
Spartan customization and the REQ Store are working in development. Armor, helmets, visors, colors, emblems, stances, assassinations, and weapon skins are supported. Packs can be bought and opened with in-game REQ Points, with items collected and eligible cards sold.
Some names, thumbnails, service tags, and Commendation data still need work. REQ use during Warzone matches is also still being validated. See the Spartan & REQ roadmap.
Will Forge be included?
Forge is part of Reforged’s PC foundation and the complete experience we are working toward. That does not mean every Forge feature is integrated into Reforged yet: Forge maps and modes in Reforged lobbies remain planned on the roadmap.
Will there be LAN and mod support?
Both are long-term goals. LAN discovery and broader LAN play testing are in progress; mod support is planned. Their final form depends on development progress, so there is no finished LAN or modding package to promise yet.
04 PROJECT BOUNDARIES
Files & ownership
Is Reforged just Forge with Xbox files copied into it?
Halo 5: Forge provides an existing Windows foundation. Adapting it to work with locally supplied Halo 5 Xbox content requires substantial work on compatibility, menus, gameplay, and services. Campaign and Warzone do not appear simply by copying assets.
Read how Reforged works for the project’s approach.
Will I need my own Halo 5 game files? Will you provide them?
Yes, wherever original game files are required, users must supply them from copies they are lawfully entitled to access. The intended workflow processes those files locally on the user’s own machine.
Reforged provides project-authored tooling and documentation. It does not distribute Microsoft-owned game executables, libraries, maps, textures, models, audio, keys, credentials, or other proprietary game data.
The exact release requirements and setup process will be documented when ready. Please do not request, offer, trade, or link to pirated game files in the project’s community. See the project policy.
Will Reforged bypass DRM or Xbox ownership checks?
That is not the project’s intention. Reforged is not intended to bypass DRM, entitlement verification, account authentication, encryption, or other access controls.
Where technically and officially supported, a future release may require Microsoft/Xbox authentication and verification of an applicable Halo 5 entitlement. These are intended release safeguards; final requirements will be documented before release.
05 PLAYING ON PC
Platform & online
Is Reforged Windows-only? What about Linux?
Windows is the current target. The priority is to get Reforged working reliably on its existing Windows foundation before considering other platforms.
No Linux release or support commitment has been announced.
What are the system requirements?
Final requirements for a public release have not been announced. Current development setup and storage needs should not be treated as final player requirements.
Hardware requirements, required game files, and setup instructions will be documented when a public build is ready.
Will Xbox Live multiplayer or Xbox crossplay work?
Reforged’s online work uses its own community services. Reforged accounts, friends, invitations, and Custom Games are working in development.
Compatibility with official Xbox Live matchmaking or Xbox players has not been announced. Community online play, LAN support, and Xbox crossplay are different things; support for one does not establish the others.
06 THE COMMUNITY
Getting involved
Can I help develop Reforged?
Broader contributor opportunities will be announced when the project is ready to bring more people in. Those announcements will explain what help is needed and how to get involved.
You can already take part in the community emblem campaign. It includes guidelines, templates, and a file checker.
Is the project still in development?
Yes. Reforged is in active development. Quiet periods do not automatically mean cancellation; some work does not produce a new screenshot every day.
The dated devlog records progress, and the roadmap shows what remains.
Where should I get reliable updates or ask another question?
Use this website and announcements in the project Discord. Information elsewhere may be incomplete, outdated, or speculation.
If your question is not covered here, ask in the community. Please check the FAQ and announcements first.
